Through award-winning literacy curriculum “disguised” through an engaging project-based learning experience, students strengthen core literacy skills. Our approach is non-threatening and intentionally designed so that students of any ability are able to thrive and gain valuable language and communication skills.
Targeting the most under-valued populations, from migrant youth, unhoused youth, and high poverty youth, our programs not only teach students how to write but also how to express themselves, how to connect to their own feelings, how to connect to each other and how to connect to their community.
Through a wide range of experiences, from creating original storybooks, rap battles, poetry slams, improv performances, and mentorship programs, students invent and share, iterate and improve on ideas and work together on common goals — arming them with invaluable skills for future success.
OUR HISTORY
The fund was launched in May 2023 to address the incomprehensible educational setbacks that occurred during protracted school lockdowns and societal upheaval since 2020.
Millions of already vulnerable children now suffer significant long-term effects of learning loss — and the odds against them are greater than ever.
Children living in poverty face extreme hardship and require extra support. They may lack caring adults in their lives or adults capable of supporting their education at home. Children living in cramped spaces often have no quiet place to learn and, in the worst circumstances, face negligence or abuse.
Our fund delivers unforgettable, enriching learning experiences and offers our nation’s most deserving students the opportunity to tap into their creativity and celebrate their original ideas.
While we feature writing experiences spanning poetry, games, short exercises and other activities, one of the special programs the Fund supports is our Become-an-Author experience. We make sure that the very highest quality educational materials make it into the hands of these children who need meaningful learning experiences that also build confidence and engender joy.
We choose equitable resources that can be completed by a child independently at-home with easy-to-follow guidelines or with limited adult facilitation at an educational facility, and we make sure that no device or Internet connectivity is required.
We partner with out-of-school time organizations (e.g., Boys & Girls Clubs, YMCAs), Title I schools, migrant learning communities, and other organizations serving “at-risk” youth. These partners have systems in place to implement the Young Authors curriculum or they can safely distribute materials to students/families for at-home implementation.

The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind—creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers. These people—artists, inventors, designers, storytellers, caregivers, consolers, big picture thinkers—will now reap society’s richest rewards and share its greatest joys.”
